3 Little Notes for a Very Busy Week

Three complete notes for Monday, midweek, and the moment the work finally ends.

Three short fictional notes follow a busy week. Each is published here in full; the page does not contain a personal inbox or a hidden reply.

Monday: before the list

The list is long, so this note will be short. I hope the first task is kinder than it looks. I hope your lunch stays in the bag instead of being forgotten on the kitchen counter. And I hope you remember that you can care about your work without turning every minute into work.

In the little story around this note, I have drawn a terrible star beside your name. It is not a rating of your performance. It is simply the best star I can draw before breakfast.

Wednesday: a small interruption

Halfway through the week, I have very little news and one excellent biscuit. I would share it if this were a kitchen rather than a letter. Since it is a letter, I can at least describe it: crisp at the edge, chocolate in the middle, not likely to survive long.

This is your fictional interruption from someone who likes you. No request attached. Finish what you are doing if you need to. The biscuit report can wait until later.

Friday: putting things down

The last email is sent, or perhaps it is not. Sometimes a week finishes without feeling finished. In our imagined evening, we close the notebook anyway and decide what we want to eat. It is a modest celebration, but a real one within the story.

I am glad we have this small stretch of unassigned time. We can use it for a walk, a conversation, or sitting in the same room doing different things. Nobody needs to earn their place on the sofa by having had a spectacular week.

A note about this reading

These are fictional notes about everyday affection. They are not actual messages scheduled around the reader’s activities.

A little pause. Another page when you’re ready.
